Pours pitch black with a billowing, pillows tan head that is a constant companion. Specks of lacing.
Dark chocolate and a hint of dark fruit and molasses in the aroma, a whiff of husky grain and old rag. The flavor is richer than I expected. Chocolatey with a rising coffee bitterness through the finish. It is fairly substantial feeling, not quite meaty, though, with active carbonation and a roasty finish. This is a dry stout on steroids, fairly hefty in all aspects, big beautiful head, in your face degustatorally, chocolate and coffee grounds, not dry. This is a drinkable, rich and tasty. It could still be tightened up a little and there is a little roast twang in the finish that takes away from the rest, but on the whole this is a nice, simple beer. They manage to get a lot and pack it into a fairly small package. It's definitely worth a try if you've never had it.
