This beer rested in Litchfield Distillery maple bourbon barrels for 12 months. Double mashed with traditional English Maris Otter Malt and boiled for 6 hours, this beer has huge notes of caramel, toffee, bourbon and maple.

A: opaque; very dark brown; less than a 1 finger tan head that receded to a thick ring; no lacing;

S: dark fruit with vanilla;

T: dark fruit with vanilla from start to finish; an underlying sweetness throughout that is balanced at the end by moderate bitterness; other than the vanilla, no wood or bourbon character;

M: full bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish; a little alcohol bite, but not too much;

O: a little too sweet for me;

This one pours a darkish golden amber color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like bittersweet maple, toffee, dark fruit, bourbon, oak, chocolate, and caramel.

This is a really solid barleywine that was completely unknown to me prior. The barrel character is really nice, with a nice rich but not too sweet maple character, and lots of bourbon otherwise. There's also oak, a touch of vanilla, caramel, some light chocolate, and a definite fruity character that works pleasantly here.

This is medium bodied, and not all that boozy, with a nice drinkability for the style.

This was a very nice surprise for me. There's a lot of great barrel on this one.
