He often refers to me as "The CANmander of The CANQuest (tm)" or variations on that theme, but my local, in-person trader, tone77, is no slouch in the CANned beer department, either. This was out of one of his drop-offs & with tomorrow's pending solar eclipse, I am making this my fourth entry in Happy Preparation for Tomorrow's Solar Eclipse New Beer Sunday (Week 652)!
From the CAN: "Since 1932"; "World Acclaimed"; "Full-Strength Beer"; "Born in Singapore".
The tab was an old-time style that always makes me think that it is going to snap off when I Crack! open the vent. Fortunately, my fears were not realized & so I began a gentle Glug of this 500-ml monstrosity. It did not matter what I did, it was bound & determined to foam up massively, so I just sat back, waited for it to calm & started back up with my pour. After a few times of this push-me-pull-you nonsense, I finally had two fingers of dense, rocky, tawny head with decent retention. Color was surprisingly Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9), but it was apparently made with black rice, hence the name. It smelled like cleaning fluid mixed with pink bubble gum. Ugh. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was definitely Jolly Rancher Green Apple & I CAN understand tone77's dissatisfaction with it. Oof. This was another example of a cheaply-made high-gravity lager without many, if any, redeeming qualities. It has been a while since I have enCANtered this type of thing, but it was not pleasant. Finish was dry, as high gravity beers tend to be, but it was a once and done thing. On to something else!

A hot day in Negombo and I'm lovin it here but hatin' the beer. Poured from a 16.9 oz. can. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, some malts. Taste is green apples, malts, some metallic notes. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is not very good.
