Aroma: A nice blend of biscuit malt sweet and floral hop smells. I get some peppery Saaz like smells, although the bottle mentions Cascade. I don’t get any of the “grapefruit” or citric aroma of Cascade.
Appearance: A darker amber-brown with a small bubble crown of off white head. Some nice lacing noted.
Taste: Again a fairly balanced beer. Malt plays a role, strong backbone, but a bitter hop is also present. There is a slightly dusty taste, as well as some mild citric orange like flavors (maybe there are some Cascades in there). Some minor spice like notes as well, mainly clove, but again, minor.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, slightly slick mouthfeel with a lasting coat.
Overall: Not bad. The overall taste doesn’t wow me, but it not unpleasant. A fairly clean and straightforward beer. I can see some really digging the taste and making a session of this. For me the spice notes were a bit strong, and tasted slightly like aged hops. No date on the bottle. Worth a try to see if it rocks your world.

 

 

Surprisingly tasty and smooth. The bottle says "Craft Brewed" on it and it tastes that way.
Wish I knew what the alcohol by volume was on this is. If I had to guess I'd say it's around 5%; anything stronger would be extremely surprising and would probably have me give a higher rating. New Amsterdam's website isnt terrificly informative.
Smooth malt smell and taste; a bit on the thin side as far as mouthfeel, definately high on drinkability, definately worth a try.

Came in a 12 ounce bottle, with no freshness dating, Havent seen this stuff around in awhile, gave it a try. Poured a light yellowish amber, clear, white head, some light wispy lacing. Lemony nose. Middle of the road APA, moderate hoping adds a decent grainy grapefruit like bite, that lingers on the tongue. Finishes long and smooth. Decent session brew. nice to have everyday choices like this one available. Worth a try.

This beer pours a clear tea color with an impressive pillowy off-white head. The smell of fresh baked bread, light citrus hops, and a smells quite nice. The taste is of toast, light hops, very light carbonation, and a dry roasted malt finish. It is light bodied for a beer to display a head like this did, but it is still quite tastey. Pretty solid beer IMO. Cheers!

A fairly basic American pale ale that tends more towards caramelish malt than hops in both flavor than aroma. Its clear, deep amber body is topped by a creamy head of off-white foam that holds quite well and leaves some splottchy lace. The nose is caramelish and fruity with just a slight hint of Cascade hops. In the mouth it's fine carbonation leaves it gently crisp before warming to become somewhat creamy and smooth. Medium bodied. Some citrusy hop flavor and a healthy dose of bitterness round out the caramel-soaked and delicately toasty malt in the flavor, and it finishes dry with a light lemony twang.

New Amsterdam’s New York Ale (descriptive, eh?) pours a light, clear gold color with a pretty, almost fluffy, soft white head of foamy bubbles. A creamy, fruity aroma predicts the flavor almost exactly—like canned pears in light syrup. The pear flavor increases throughout the glass, becoming smoother and more pronounced as the beer warms slightly. Hop aroma and flavor is negligible—this is a straight quaffer. The pear flavor (which is not at all unappealing) begins to morph into a pear-apple flavor about half way through the glass. Still, neither flavor was a fresh fruit flavor: the whole sensation was that of canned or cooked fruit; like when the fruit gets REALLY soft and smooth. (Hence my creamy description.) A touch of buttery diacetyl adds to the impression.

Well, this was a straightforward beer. Without an obvious dating system, I don’t know how old my six pack was, but I do know this beer’s only been available in the Dallas area for about a month. If a beer’s going to be this one dimensional, I’d at least like it to have a fresh malt taste…

A light amber colored brew with a creamy foam on top. It's very clear with nice, tiny bubbles rising up through the glass. It has a crisp, lightly citrusy hop aroma with some malt in the backround. Flavors of lightly sweet malt and citrus hop that's very refreshing. It has a light texture and a dry, lemony finish with a hint of toasted malt. A good session brew for the warm weather.

Appearance: Light amber in color with a half-inch off-white head that retains well. Well carbonated with good lacing.

Aroma: Caramel notes with moderate hops.

Taste: Sharp carbonation and sweet caramel malts upfront, turning slightly tart midway through the taste. Strong, moderately bitter hops assert themselves later in the taste and linger on past its end.

Mouth feel: Aside from the slightly harsh carbonation, pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: An interesting beer, a touch more hops than I would have expected, but good nonetheless.

Bought locally (Grapevine refrigerated shelves), a few days in my fridge, reviewed 45F-55F.

A medium-sized, cream-colored head dies unevenly (nice). Full lacing. The beer is amber with hints of reddishness (reddishness?).

The smell is lightly hoppy, slightly sweet, with hints of tobacco. The front is sweetish, turning a little sour in the malty middle. The finish boasts substantial hoppy bitterness. Yum. Grains push through in the aftertaste. This is a good beer, but there's a lot of good competition in the style.

Pours a reddish amber color with a creamy white head that fades into a good amount of lace that coats the sides of the glass as you drink. Nose is dominated by floral and spicy hops with a hint of perfume. This is perhaps due in part to a statement on the bottle that reads, “We add fresh whole Cascade hop flowers to the brew, and allow them to impart their aromatic flavor slowly and naturally.” Medium in body with a crisp mouthfeel. Taste is sweet lightly toasted malts and grains up front nicely balanced by bitter raw hop leaf flavors. This is my first time sampling a New Amsterdam Brewing beer, and I must say I’m impressed. I look forward to trying some of their other brews.

A pleasure to drink. Smells great. Good balance of hops, yet not bitter at all
