Vetter Alt Heidelberger Brauhaus “Helles”
€3,40/,3L at the brewery on 22 September 2021
Look: Hazy straw gold body beneath a standard-sized head of bright white foam. Good head retention and lacing with broken rings made up of tiny spots.
Aroma: Sweetish and grainy malt.
Taste: Bready malt with a touch of nutty graininess and a kiss of herbal and floral hops. A stiff bitterness balances it and brings it to a short lingering, dry finish.
Feel: Medium bodied and crisp.
Overall: Nothing fantastic but still good. A touch more hop flavor would be great but for a beer of just 4.5% it still works.

On-tap at Vetter Brauhaus, Heidelberg, Germany
A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high off white head that died down, leaving a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of cracker and biscuit malts are present in the nose along with notes of yeast.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of cracker malts. Although no hop flavors are present, the underlying hops mostly serve to mask the underlying malts and contribute a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is nice and dry and malty. It is a good representation of the style.
Serving type: on-tap

On tap at brewery in Heidelberg. 1 liter stein. Looks delicious like all beer. Mild lager nose With faint lemon. Simple straightforward taste again with faint bitter lemon. Watery unremarkable mouthfeel. Very basic Pilsner.

Had on tap at the Vetter 33 pub in Heidelberg. A fantastic atmosphere, great service, and amazing food. I highly recommended any BA to stop by here.
The beer pours a hazy gold and looks unfiltered (though I have no knowledge as to whether or not it is). It is light like one would expect of a helles, but has a fantastic thick head.
The nose was a little disappointing. It smells like your average German pilsner - little detail or depth, a slight aroma of hops.
With so little character in the nose, I was surprised by the bitterness of the mouth. While this is not a "hoppy" beer by any means, it has a nice, subtle hoppy aftertaste. Unlike several of the other local beers I've had up to this point in other cities (primarily Darmstadt), this is clearly made with real hops and not extracts. It has a nice long finish of malts and hops.
This is a very refreshing and highly drinkable beer. I could easily put down several. So far, one of the better examples of a Helles lager I've had.

A - Slightly cloudy, bubbles continue throughout the finish. Light straw colored
S - Sweet, malty. Smells like a sack of grain with an extremely faint hoppiness
T - Slight champagne taste due to high carbonation. Strong malt flavor with decent hop presence. Fruity aftertaste
M - Extremely smooth, crisp, and clean.
D - All night long.

Yellow color, quite light, a bit hof hazyness. White and abundant foam.
Malty smell, with honey, quite onthe style.
Again maltiness in the taste, and honey, with some hop notes that comes up here and there. Clean.
On-tap at the brewpub it was a bit nore fresh than that in a bottle, but it is still well drinkable.
Right aftertaste for the style.

This helles bier pours with a minimal amount of carbonation from my growler I got at the brauhaus. There is little head retention, and only forms a light ring around the rim of the stein. I poured this into a one liter, so perhaps if one would pour this into a smaller glass, you may have better head presentation. The body of this brew is semi-cloudy and is very golden.
This gives off decent aromas characteristic of an export lager. Not overwhelming, but apple and straw like aromas are detectable.
This brew is flavorful with mellow husky and pie crust flavors.
This beer is well balanced and not overwhelming in character, which makes for a good session beer. Pairs well with bbq to chicken and fish dinners.
