Had on-tap at Claimstake Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a pint with a quarter-finger width head brimming at the top of the glass. Black with cola brown edging. Island of suds with a thick ring around the edge of the glass. Not much for lacing; just a few tiny spots.
Smell - Aroma hits on roasted malt, light chocolate, blackberry and a bit of homey sweetness.
Taste - Follows the nose. Lots of roasty malt character, highlighted by lesser juicy blackberry and a hint of honey sweetness. Very nicely layered.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate, slightly bitey carbonation. Fair smoothness upfront, with a dry, slightly chalky finish.
Overall - a pretty damn good and uniquely flavored porter. I was hesitant to try this because of the blackberry and honey added, but they did so without killing too much of the base porter flavor. Well done.
