Had on-tap at Claimstake Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a 13oz snifter, murky and rusty orange in color with a thin, sandstone colored layer of suds covering the surface. Tiny dots decorate a fair amount of the glass.
Smell - Light toasty malt with a hint of caramel sweetness and some decent floral character.
Taste - Even keeled flavor profile, with the malts contributing hints of toast, caramel and faint chocolate. Hops come through with some floral and earth character. Earthiness continues into the finish.
Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium in body with fair, tingly carbonation. Easy drinker with a clean, slightly dry finish.
Overall - I've tried a small handful of their red ales over the last year or two, and I don't think they quite have a handle on making an amazing one yet. Most have been kinda ho-hum and earthy. This one is, unfortunately, no exception.
