From tasting notes 07/12/18
Had on-tap at Claimstake Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a 13oz snifter, black with a dark cola brown where light can penetrate. Thin, tan layer of suds float atop the surface.
Smell - Chocolate aroma with lesser notes of oak, vanilla, rye spice, molasses, roast and tart berry character.
Taste - Follows the nose. Even keeled chocolatey base upfront and through to the finish. Jammy fruitiness hits next, then lesser oak and vanilla emerge by midtaste. Faint rye spice.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with light, bitey carbonation. Smooth, creamy texture makes this an easy drinker with a dry, slightly sticky finish.
Overall - Damn this is great. Really reminds me a lot of Dechutes The Abyss Rye Whiskey variant, or maybe a blend of that and the OG Abyss. At $6 for a 13oz pour, its a damn steal. Claimstake isn't big on bringing brews back, but I would beg them for this one again.
