From tasting notes 10/19/18
Had on-tap at Claimstake Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a pint, slight haze and golden orange in color with a thin, consistent layer of suds covering the surface. Strong lacing with thick webbing, lines and small spotting.
Smell - Aroma hits on notes of tangerine, grapefruit and pine with lesser bready sweetness.
Taste - Follows the nose. Good mix of grapefruit bitterness and tangerine brightness upfront while lesser notes of pine and grassiness mingle beneath. Light, toasty bread or biscuit sweetness sitting beneath. Aftertaste lingers with grass and citrus pith bitterness.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Slick, easy drinker with a crisp, mostly dry finish.
Overall - Classic West Coast DIPA, and a darn good one at that. I get hesitant when I see Simcoe, but the 07270 hops do a great job of balancing that dank pine and earth that I'm not big on.
