Had on-tap at Claimstake Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a 10oz snifter, black with cola brown edging. Thin, broken layer of suds. Fair lacing with broken webbing, lines and spotting.
Smell - Fudge, coffee and nutty almond aroma.
Taste - Follows the nose. Coffee roast, fudge and lesser almond character. Hint of alcohol astringency when cold, but smooths out and flavors become more cohesive as it warms.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low-to-fair carbonation. Silky, creamy texture that turns dry and mostly sticky in the finish.
Overall - Another great imperial stout from Claimstake. A bit sweet, but not cloying. Should become a better and more approachable beer as it ages.
