Appearance - Pours dark brown with a reddish tinge. Light tan, near finger width head that displays good retention before dissipating to a thin, broken layer of suds. Broken lines and small spotting make up the lacing.
Smell - Cinnamon, vanilla, toffee, faint toastiness and a hint of booze make up the nose.
Taste - I'm picking up cinnamon foremost, then some sweetness from the vanilla as well as some toffee. Faint touches of wood and caramel mid-taste. Light, light toastiness in the finish along with a slight warmth. Cinnamon and faint toffee linger in the aftertaste. Picking up some berry-like tartness in the aftertaste also, once it nears room temp.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with low carbonation. Slick, easy drinker with a light, slightly drying finish. 9.5% doesn't even register.
Overall - The cinnamon and vanilla add a nice touch to this wee heavy. I'm not really catching any scotch whiskey character, though. Oak chips just don't work like a barrel does.
