Had on-tap at Claimstake Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a standard pint, crystal clear and deep copper red in color with a thin, broken layer of suds. Nice lacing, with intricate webbing, broken lines and spotting.
Smell - The aroma is sweet and slightly toasty with a bit of underlying hoppiness.
Taste - Starts off sweet with notes of caramel and lightly toasted bread. Slight black pepper spice. Hops come in mid-taste with a hint of herbal and spice character, then a bit of lemony/grassy bitterness in the finish. Nice balance.
Mouthfeel - Medium in body with fair carbonation. Slick, smooth drinker with an easy going finish.
Overall - Probably my favorite amber Ckaimstake has made to date. Most have been highly hopped and/or very earthy. This is nice.
