Had on-tap at Claimstake Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a snifter, hazy and bright copper in color, with a thin ring of suds encircling the edge of the glass. A handful of lines and spotting make up the minimal lacing.
Smell - Cinnamon and sugar stand out on the nose, along with lesser toastiness. Faint vanilla sitting beneath
Taste - Follows the nose. Cinnamon is prominent, while lesser sugar, toasted malt and vanilla lend support to really add credence to the concept of a liquid churro.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied, with low-to-moderate carbonation. Slick, easy drinker with the faintest trace of stickiness. Finishes mostly dry.
Overall - Really solid "pastrywine" as they have labeled it, though if I'm being honest, I would kill for them to make
a classic, American Barleywine, because I know they'd kill it. But I digress. They set out to make a churro flavored beer, and they succeeded, and maybe even exceeded expectations.
