Appearance - Pours a clear and brilliant golden amber. Head strangely fizzes away quicker than soda, leaving a barren surface, save a tiny island of suds or two, and no lacing.
Smell - A complex but alluring aroma of honey, golden raisin, mild tobacco leaf, vanilla, oak and toffee.
Taste - Follows the nose. Sweet upfront with notes of honey, golden raisin and toffee, and then it sweeps in with some lighter, earthy tones of oak, faint tobacco, and finally a healthy touch of vanilla in the finish, as it finds itself blending into an aftertaste that is mostly sweet but with underlying earth that is light enough to accent those sweet notes.
Mouthfeel - Medium-to-full in body with low carbonation. Smooth, lightly sticky texture before a dry finish that somehow evades sticky lips.
Overall - I haven't had many BBA barleywines that I can recall to memory, but Firestone's Sucaba is one that certainly comes to mind, and it's somewhat similar in many ways. Is it as good as the legendary Sucaba? I think it's close, and it really comes down to personal preference. This brew has a bit more initial sweetness and that carries through to the finish. Maybe a month old? Fantastic as is, though some of that sweetness could settle within the next 6-18 months and deliver something truly "Uncanny", hahaha! Oh boy.
