Had on-tap at Claimstake Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up in a Belgian tulip, near pitch black with deep cola brown edging. A thin line of suds encircles the edge of the glass. Not much for lacing, just a random spot or two.
Smell - Strong chocolatey aroma. Milk chocolate/cocoa character. Lesser sweet bourbon booziness. Fair vanilla.
Taste - Bourbon sweetness upfront, then chocolatey cocoa and underlying vanilla sweetness. Mild oak and a tinge of bourbon heat as it reaches the finish. Chocolate, vanilla and a touch of bitterness rings in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Full in body with fair carbonation. Slick, smooth drinker with a slightly dry finish and minimal stickiness for a BA impy.
Overall - Straightforward chocolate BA impy, but damn is it tasty. Nice balance of flavor. Much smoother than your average BBA stout. Find it. Drink it. Enjoy it.
