Had on-tap at Claimstake Brewing in Rancho Cordova, CA
Appearance - Served up from a can into a can-shaped pint glass. Thin, half finger width head in top that holds for a bit before dying to a thin, broken layer of suds across the surface. Fair sized ring clings to the edge.
Smell - Smells as advertised. Coffee w/ Irish cream. Coffee, cream and chocolatey throughout.
Taste - Follows the nose. Coffee with lesser cream, sugar and chocolate. Fairly balanced finish; a fairly harmonious dance of the coffee, chocolate, cream and sugar notes that linger well.
Mouthfeel - On the fuller side of medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Smooth, creamy body before a lightly dry and sticky finish.
Overall - I recall having one or two of their sweetened coffee stouts before, and the results weren't great. This is a remarkable improvement from their previous attempts at such. Balance is the key on this one. Still a tad more sweet than I would prefer, but enjoyable nonetheless.
