Copenhagen 12/5 2020.. 44 cl can from Best of Beers webshop. Some Greek mythological creatures doing something dramatic with snakes and flames on the can.

Pours opaque, dark brown with a small, light beige head. Settles a paper thin layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.

Aroma is intense with a strong, sugary odor mingling with bitter coffee. Brown sugar, candy, caramel. Roasted almost burnt quality. Bitter coffee, dark chocolate.

Light carbonation. Thick, smooth, soft, viscous, creamy texture. Very light tingle.

Flavor is intense and with a heavy sweetness followed by a more moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is is bitter with a sweet undercurrent. Lingering. A bit of alcohol mingling with dark chocolate in the finish.

I wonder what's so fatal and deviant about this. This is just a very nice, reasonably strong Stout.

44 cl can, lightly chilled, into my Teku, in Toulouse, France..
OK 1 finger foam on deep brown brew.
Nose is right roast malt and medium roast coffee, some chocolate, vanilla, wood.
Taste in the pocket. 2 years of bourbon barreling produces an unfussy & purely delicious and well rounded Stout.
Xlnt mouth, medium carb.
Overall, the label says ‘Barrel Aged Imperial Stout’. And that’s what it is, right on point.

A barrel aged Imperial Stout hitting a solid 11% ABV.

This is a brewery from Dublin, Ireland…

A thick bodied, delectable stout which despite its double digit ABV drinks well and easily.

It sure was a bit on the steep side but not a single penny was wasted. Really good.

 

 

 

Large and irregular hazelnut head with little hold. Ebony body tending to black with red reflections. Olfactory bouquet, coffee, milk chocolate, toasted barley, caramel, licorice, light tobacco and resinous. On the palate there is a sweet entrance, chocolate and caramel, red fruit, subsequently harsher notes of roasting, licorice and a fairly hoppy finish with herbaceous and powdery notes. Bitter aftertaste immediately contrasted by a sweet touch. The body is medium soft but not totally round, fine and low intensity carbonation.

 

CAN
Viscous jet; ash + fig nose; cocoa, plum, ash, licorice, low roast. Smooth, chewy and round; no heat or stickiness.

Big and black. Not so much coffee; more dark fruit. Somehow stays light enough at 10%. Skillz.

 

Had on tap at P. Mac's in Ireland. Deliciously fresh. Big chocolate notes with a hint if booze hit the nose. Liquid is thick and rich. Absolutely decadent, saturates the palate and reminds you what a full bodied stout really tastes like. Notes of cocoa, coffee hit right away, and sweet toffee/caramel follow with a lovely strong toffee and toast flavor that lingers long after the sip. Booze is evident on the nose but not offensive. Every sip reinvigorates the incredible flavor. Even a bit of liquorice is present, just barely. The head is fairly subdued with a nice frothy rim, which doesn't stick to the sides of the glass, a reminder that there is some real booze in this one. I would love to buy some of this and age it, but I think I would drink it all before the age made any difference. I would have mistaken this for an award winning American imperial stout. I'm gonna keep my eyes open for this in the States because it's too good to forget! Boy am I glad I ordered this one. Well done Whiplash.
