i beleive this is only my second new neipa of the year, which is crazy, this is a pretty good one to come back too, super mellow neipa, very fruity, peach, lemon, lime, orange, papaya, melon, pineapple, quite floral, super laid back, medium in body, low to medium carbonation, lacking that pillowy softness quality, good neipa though

CAN
Milky straw with a ribbon of froth; weedy herb + grapefruit sorbet; lemon Italian ice, peach, hints of dried pineapple + grass; pillowy and round.
Citra, Idaho 7, BRU-1
4.25 x 5
Let this sit 2 weeks after purchase - there have been some hop burn issues with Whiplash lately.
That’s not a problem here; rather, I7 + Citra double up on the citrus to bring a ton of candied lemon. BRU-1 pineapple + NEIPA esters are relatively restrained; this is all summer lemonade.
It’s so mellow + smooth I’d almost say it’s lacking horsepower (heh) but given Whiplash’s lockdown track record of rushed-out beasts, it’s nice to get something with some nuance + balance.
Among their best this year.
2nd tasting, Mar 13, 2023 (-.25% to nose)
CAN
Hazy tarnished brass with a thick cap of white froth; grapefruit sorbet + dried pineapple on the nose; tangelo, mango pulp, slight cat + pine, some Bartlett pear + apricot, a bit of twig, and grassy end; smooth, creamy, almost medium.

Citra, Idaho 7, BRU-1
That hop lineup made me expect a load of citrus with a bit of tropical, like some Tropicana blend. It’s actually the other way around: almost-too-ripe Citra mango + I7 guava fighting against greener notes that I suspect BRU-1 is bringing.
It makes for a tidy little juice bomb, wrapped in the usual estery, pillowy Whiplash package. There’s a slight whiff of green heat, like all of these hops can’t help but burn when they’re young. But in the glass it’s twisty enough to hold interest while not so heavy + strong to require sipping, so quite sessionable in the end.
Not a death blow, but more approachable for it.
