my strange relationship with galaxy hops continues, i think they’ve been put to good use here, this is a nice beer, beer looks great, big frothy white head with excellent retention, beer is a neipa straw colour, dense haze, galaxy hop on the nose, floral and citrusy, herbal, a certain oaky wooden character to it, dank, nice sweet fruit flavour, quite sweet, lemon and orange and lime and mango, not at all bitter, some caramel, sherbet, super smooth and drinkable, strength totally hidden, another nice whiplash

CAN
Webby white head over murky dark blonde; pineapple, melon, and slight onion nose; shortbread, papaya, passion fruit, slight florals, some dank, whiff of booze; soft, oily.

Simcoe, Galaxy

This is fresh - 2-3 weeks, which is too fresh, if anything - so I’m at a loss to explain why this is so bland. I’ve heard about some bad crops of Galaxy - diesel + onion, I hear - but this isn’t even giving that.
More likely, given the ill brown tinge, that this picked up some O2 that just hasn’t had a chance to metabolize yet.
Either way, dull as dishwater.

Nothing going on, especially for a 7%er - big disappointment for Whiplash.

Hazy goldenrod with a tidy clingy carpet of white; pineapple, mango, and tangerine nose; orange sorbet, peach jam, papaya, a whiff of diesel, slight mint, and dank end; soft, spritzy, medium.

Simcoe, Galaxy

4 x 5

Two heavyweight hops; this was never gonna be anything but a juice bomb that struggles for balance.
Start is on track: body stops short of milky but the nose is straight smoothie. On the palate it’s tropical fruit platter with citrus top notes and a thread of stone fruit. So far, so average.
Galaxy pungency punches through in the middle, and there’s lingering resin, but overall the potential for the dank to stank is restrained.
It’s tough to know what to say about competent craftsmanship. On the one hand, there’s nothing here that hasn’t been done 1000 times, and often better - no layered flavour profile or innovative hop schedule to be seen here. On the other, these are two tricky enough to manage hops individually, and it delivers well at IPA strength. Plus Whiplash has often struggled with the fundamentals recently.

Basic, but in a good way.
