CAN
Bright brass with a wihte ribbon; zesty orange rind with some flowers on the nose; hint of butter cookie then mandarin, passionfruit, bite of scratchy pine, slight resin; clean, lt-med, some bitterness.
4 3.75 3.75 3.75 3.75
Centennial, Simcoe, Amarillo
Yep, this is that thing breweries used to make. More precisely, this would line up as a Bay Area IPA for me - not bitter enough for San Diego, not sweet enough for Portland.
Even then, it’s still got too much malty richness (whaddya expect using Golden Promise?) not enough crystal (which you can tell just from the colour,) not enough IBUs for the strength and more tropical notes than any West Coaster had back in 2007. Plus there’s a whiff of harsh esters off the whole thing; some particular crop of hops, maybe?
It’s clean + easy enough, but this is not a good example of the style.
Besides, these beers shouldn’t be a big deal - they were a dime a dozen once upon a time.
