CAN
Milky cornsilk with a clingy white cap; sweet orchard fruit with flowers + earth on the nose; snap wheat crackers, honeydew, yellow apple tart, hints of pineapple and grapefruit and an herbal hum to end; lt-med, round, smooth.
4x5
H Blanc
For starters, odd to be specific enough to say, “Williams Pear” but general enough to say, “Melon.”
Nomenclature aside, this one is about the fruit additions, which anchor the beer with a summery, understated ripeness in what could otherwise be a standard wit.
It needs a lift, though, especially with no citrus additions.
Coriander is mild + I’m wishing for more Hallertau Blanc character - some lemongrass could really brighten the pulpier notes.
Either way, this is another subtle, slow-burn wit that’s content to whisper, not shout.
I’m just not sure that this new series of witbiers is as interesting as Whiplash seems to think they are.
