Saaz, Mandarina Bavaria

Another hipster brewery release of a traditional style, another hyperbolic commercial description:
“An old-school rustic lager with new-school vibes!”
It is none of these things.
Instead, it is a clean, light and very drinkable lager that showcases quality pilsner malt + the citrussy side of Saaz.
I don’t know what the spelt and Mandarina add, but I also don’t care.
I’d like more bitterness to end - it leans helles, not pilsner - but there’s not much to clean up anyway. It’s dead easy and quenching + that’s good enough for me.

One of the better craft lagers in Ireland, despite the hype.

i’ve put this down as a pale lager, but it describes itself as a “rustic lager”, and is made with spelt, so unclear. anywho, back in ireland for christmas, so had to pick up some whiplash, this isn’t a very whiplash-y whiplash, but it’s an ok, drinkable, lager, bready malt, fruity hoppy flavour, lightly floral, light bitterness, light bodied and a bit watery, nothing special by any means
