Milky dirty blonde with a steady, rimming cap of snow; pineapple sorbet nose with faint pixie sticks and sage; Saltines, grapefruit peel, canary melon rind, papaya puree, light dank; smooth, light, slight oil.

Citra, El Dorado, Idaho 7

Nose and look line up to promise a proper baby NEIPA with all sorts of juicy bits.
Taste doesn’t deliver: there’s pops of El D tropical laid over a lean I7 citrus base, but even allowing for a modest ABV, it’s still watery + toned down given the bright yellow hop varieties.
A sessioner you can crush by the case, sure, and it deserves some credit for that.
But even Sierra are delivering more hazy flavour in a 12oz can these days, which is a far cry from the cutting edge Whiplash used to occupy. And if I’m looking for a 4.5% quaffer in Ireland, I’d rather drink Rye River Hop Drops and get a straight blast of Citra for half the price.
Another thin, “modern” IPA: quenching, but nothing to get fussed about.

Remember when Whiplash made New England IPAs?
