Sourdough Pale Ale
Back in 1983, Toronto was a city coming into its own; the CN Tower, Eaton Centre, Roy Thomson Hall, and the Toronto International Film Festival were all new and exciting additions, with Skydome in the works.
Unfortunately, with big-city success came problematic big-city issues, and hungry folks were among them. And so arose the Daily Bread Food Bank, a non-religious organization founded by Sister Marie Tremblay.
With over 10,000 volunteers and 135 member agencies across Greater Toronto, Daily Bread is the largest food bank in Canada, distributing over 9 million pounds of food (1/3 of which is fresh produce, protein and dairy) to 60,000 people and families (more than half of whom are children and seniors) each month, and helping lift them out of poverty.
Every dollar donated to Daily Bread, results in the distribution of $5 worth of food, and Daily Bread’s recently-launched 20/20 vision program is increasing food delivery by 20% to 20 high priority neighbourhoods.
We wanted to do our part to help out this incredible Toronto organization so, using leftover bread from our neighbours at the Drake Commissary, we brewed this unusual and remarkably refreshing dry-hopped pale ale; one dollar from the sale of each beer will go to Daily Bread.
