A very dark black beer that pours like it is thick. Initial tan head was very thin and has faded out. At the bottom of my tulip glass I do see a very dark amber color. Does leave a trace of legs on the glass as well.
Smell is pretty light. Some roasted malts on the nose. A faint hint of dark coffee.
Taste is real smooth vanilla and raspberry blended together. Coffee and a bit of dark roasted malts in the back. Like a far off echo when you holler into an empty canyon. Very smooth is really the best descriptor for the taste. As I continue to drink it the coffee and chocolate notes start joining the roasted malts . Still in the distance yet they are there.
Mouth is surprisingly light. Very surprising seeing haw dark the beer is and the impression of the pour. The finish is also pretty crisp. Just a faint lingering of the taste like a ghost dancing down your throat.
This beer is really quite an amazing accomplishment! My hat goes way off to Lovelady Brewing. I normally am not a big stout in the blasting Vegas summer person but when I saw this something said, "Buy it." And I am damn glad I did! The ABV is really surprising as well. Just a bit of heat but very faint heat. And as easy drinking as this is I am shocked at the ABV. Even the style is a shock when you take into account the drinkablity. Most stouts this big tend to be a bit thick. Maybe since these folks are next door to us in Vegas, and suffer the same hellacious heat, they made an imperial stout that could be enjoyed in the summer? I reall like this beer and am very impressed by it.
