Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with some retention and some lacing notes. Aroma of chocolate notes with some strong woody bourbon notes and light vanilla. Taste is also a mix of chocolate notes with some vanilla notes with some strong bourbon and vanilla notes and a sweet finale. Body is pretty full with an oily texture and good carbonation with some discernible alcohol notes. Nice woody bourbon stout with good chocolate flavors with sweet finish.

Got this from hopsolutely this past summer. Cheers!
From a 500ml bottle into a snifter
Imperial stout brewed with maple syrup aged in rye whisky barrels
APPEARANCE: Clear black pour yields a one finger, fizzy, somewhat loser, tan head with okay retention. Noisy head quickly fizzes down to a faint wisp and ring. Clear black body with no visible carbonation evident. Only a ring remains leaving no lacing on the glass. Same as the double barrel variant.
SMELL: Lots of potent whisky barrel on this one, oak, vanilla and milk chocolate aromas, some hints of maple and a decent layer of butterscotch and minty candy cane as well. Bolder and boozy.
TASTE: Whisky and oak up front, with some decent butterscotch, candy cane and maple sweetness as well, moving into a boozy and barrel heavy swallow. A bold finish of whisky, oak, vanilla, milk chocolate, butterscotch sweetness, minty maple character and alcohol linger on the palate. Bold and plenty forthcoming.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Not quite creamy enough, a little foamy, goes down fine with bit of a burn and finishes somewhat sticky. Lots of heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is a big one. It’s bigger than the ABV might suggest and the maple syrup quality isn’t quite what I’d hoped it would be. What’s left of the maple comes across as a minty candy cane character when combined with the rather boozy whisky barrel. In any case, while this one had plenty going on, it wasn’t quite what I was hoping for. Thanks again, guys!
