I got this from a friend from Canada; I have a few more to try. I am serving the beer at 50 degrees in a tulip glass. The pour created a half-fingered, light tan head with poor retention. The quick dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The color is brownish-black with dark rusty brown hues. It is semi-transparent and charting at SRM 32. Overall, it is a below-average showing for a high-ABV barleywine.
Nosing the glass, I smell toffee, dark-roasted coffee, a skosh of char, Maillard, vanilla, chocolate, roasted malts, port, red wine, spirits, wood resin, treacle, caramel, brown sugar, earthiness, and malty sweetness.
Sipping the glass, I taste port, dried cherries, red wine, wood resin, chocolate, treacle, char, espresso, toffee, molasses, caramel, leather, dates, earthiness, malty sweetness, Maillard, and tobacco.
The mouthfeel is chewy and coating, with a silky, soft, and warm finish. The body is heavy and low in carbonation.
The port barrel finish helps temper this beast, creating character and depth. The barleywine is delicious. The big maltiness is not overbearing, and it has some sweetness. It is a fantastic barleywine on this Mother's Day.

One of their last creations, this one is serious Port flavoured, and well done. Base beer is clearly in the supporting run. A little left, good for a stew.

Pours a dark and cloudy brown, I’d call it almost dark leather like, larger uniform bubbles for head; lingers in ring form.

The nose is a combination of cherry skin and oak, dark fruit like chocolate, hints of leather and unsmoked tobacco, a pleasant smelling beer.

The taste is very dark fruit driven again reminds me of dark cherry skins; the chocolate is still present as is a nice bit of oak.

Medium body, slightly thin and watery; a pleasant smooth and low carb. Slight oak tannin bite on the finish; zero hint as to the abv.
