Inky black lagered stout with deep tan head. Roasted malt dominates the aroma with hints of molasses. Very drinkable with malt sweetness balancing the roasted grain followed by a clean lager finish.

Many of you know our friend and brewer Russhane Dawkins hails originally from Jamaica. In that part of the world the Tropical Stout is one of the most popular beer styles. Russhane took the lead on developing a recipe for a lager fermented version of that style here at Kinslahger that we piloted with great results a little while back. Now we've taken it full scale and have cans available now.

It's a great beer, but more importantly, we've joined a group of breweries across the country in adopting a program initiated by Weathered Souls Brewing to package the beer under the Black is Beautiful label and to donate proceeds to a local charity supporting social justice. Russhane selected a respected local organization that works to secure racial equity and economic opportunity for all, the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, as our beneficiary partner. We're excited to be working with these folks and hope that you will join us in supporting their work.

For my first go at this effort this is a big dud. I'm getting a stale stout with lots of cardboard and bitter postage stamp glue. Some fruity esters, some pleasant dryness. Hopefully it was better on tap

Deep brown with a thick cola colored head
Nose of plum and raisin. Soft cola spices.
Taste is thin and stale, kind of cardboardy
Feel is super thin. Watery really.

Pours a dark, brilliantly shiny black color. Two-finger off-white head dissipates down to just a thin layer of sudsy foam that lingers on top of the beer.

Aroma is reminiscent of a baltic porter - has those notes of lager yeast, with notes of dark bread, some stone fruits, a bit of tobacco ash and chocolate.

Taste follows the nose with notes of dark bread, tobacco ash, some light fruity notes along with a prominent citrusy and piney hop flavor that starts towards the back end and continues into the finish. It reminds me of an old school American stout that really showcases the hops.

Feel is medium bodied, really smooth and pretty dry throughout. Very mild, gentle carbonation.

Overall a really nice beer from Kinslahger.
