Last October we picked up a freshly emptied Steamship Rye barrel from our friends at Quincy Street Distillery and knew we had to fill it with Chicago Common. 12 months later we're ready to share the results with you.

Eschewing the extra high alcohol content of many barrel aged beers, this one comes in at about 8.5% so you can enjoy a full pint without being overly satiated. Rich maltiness blends perfectly with a deep woody character and that crisp rye flavor that makes Chicago Common so unique.

32oz crowler poured into a tulip glass shows a bright, clear, reddish-copper body and supports a proud 1" head of beige bubbles.

Aroma of spicy rye, fresh air, and floral hops melds smoothly into the taste, which adds caramel and stone fruit, with oak hints. A touch boozy, for 8.5%, but a nice sipper with a spicy bite finish and a light medium feel.

Overall a good way to reuse Quincy Street rye barrels.
