Holy schnikeys, vanilla beans are expensive! Totally makes sense once you learn the amount of labor involved and that the orchids only flower once a year and all that. But it is kind of crazy when you consider that as a society we frequently use vanilla to describe something as bland or boring. Truth is these beauties are anything but boring. Real vanilla beans have a beguiling character that captivates and fortunately a little goes a long way. Layering in perfectly with the coconut in our Tropical Stout this week's Kinsman is a delicious dessert beer without being sweet or cloying. Enjoy!
