Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is dark brown/near black, head is light tan and presents 1 finger thick, head then dissipates to thing ring along glass sides with lacing on the glass sides.
Smell is light roasted malt, chocolate, mint, herbal, and light pine hops; lighter sweet chocolate notes with less caramel/malt like sweetness.
Taste is similar with a dry, chocolate sweetness blended with a light roasted malt, light caramel, and then mixed hop character of mint, herbal tea, and pine/spruce like notes; lighter caramel and malt based sweetness than aroma comes through with warmth/time.
Mouthfeel is low/moderate carbonation, moderate but dry sweetness, moderate bitterness with a lingering light/dry sweet like note.
Overall a very well executed black ipa with a minty/herbal hop note and dryer/chocolatey flavor.

Notes via stream of consciousness: The beer appears as a dark mahogany brown while pouring it but then becomes full-on black in the glass. Highlights of mahogany brown can be seen along the base of the glass when held to the light. The head is a full cap of tan foam that's two fingers thick or more in height. I'm getting sweetish and somewhat roasty dark chocolate in the aroma. The flavor follows with a little bit of apple-like fruitiness, a drizzle of caramel, a hint of coffee, and some delicate spiciness and soft pine. That's it! It's not complex but it's rich. The alcohol has a light presence, and the bitterness is median. It finishes mainly dry with caramel and chocolate fading to leave behind some earthiness, minty herbs, and subtle pine. in the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp with a fine-bubbled and slightly modearate carbonation. The head dropped initially but held up fairly well on its way out, and the lacing is quite nice from the very start to where I'm at now (about halfway through the glass). I was not expecting much from this given the goofy cartoon characters on the label and listing it at "6.66%" for the ABV but it's actually a serious beer. It's quite tasty, nicely balanced, and surprisingly quaffable.
