There seem to be an endless number of brews like this that I still haven't tried. I'm glad I grabbed this one and found a good time to try it.

It's a bottle from last October, so it should be nominal. It pours brown, translucent, with a chunky head. Odd different sized bubbles give way to small foam. The aroma is yeasty and malty. Not as strong as some but plenty aromatic. The taste is slightly dark, malty and yeasty. It sits with an outstanding lingering malty taste in the mouth.

Recommended.

From a bottle into the traditional ceramic helmet. Pours a rich amber-brown with a thick creamy off- white head that leaves a nice lacing. The nose is malty with some nice dark fruit and fig. The flavor is stronger than the nose with the same basic notes. Also has some brown sugar notes. Not belgiany. Medium bodied and very smooth. I'm glad i got some. Not an exceptional beer, but still very good and with a great history and definitely worth drinking.

From the stubby bottle in a snifter. This interesting little brown
pours a chill hazed brown with amber highlights and a modest
head of off white foam that settles to a thick ring, thin dusty layer,
and sports some nice lacing. Nose of faint raisin bread, fig, and
brown sugar. Flavors surpass the nose nicely with brown sugar and
dark raisin bread, with fig, date, and balanced herbal hops. Nice
mouthfeel; medium body, medium light carbonation, and a lightly
dry finish accentuated by dried fruit notes.

Overall, a solid little brew.

Cheers

11.2oz bottle Production date 10/16/17 (nearly 3 years ago) split between a Glencairn for appearance & the included helmet mug for authenticity. 7.5% ABV with a stated 24 month shelf life in a cool dry place - purchased warm last week. The beer pours mostly bright light brown with mocha colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and leaves a nice streaky lace. The aroma is mild with raisin, plum & brown sugar. The taste is moderately oxidized leather, dark fruit with moderate earthy hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, ok. I'm sure this would be much better younger and properly stored. I can't resist a bottle & glass (mug) combo, especially not for $4. I would definitely drink this again fresh and it's very clearly dated.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/16/2017. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep reddish orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky cream colored head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of lemon, orange, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red apple, peppercorn, clove, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, nuts, brown bread/crust, wood, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malts, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big lemon, orange, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red apple, peppercorn, clove, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, nuts, brown bread/crust, wood, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate herbal, floral, woody, grassy bitterness; and peppery yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, orange, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red apple, peppercorn, clove, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, nuts, brown bread/crust, wood, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malts, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with an awesome malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and fairly crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.5%. Overall this is a delicious Belgian brown ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malts, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/spicy/drying finish. Well rounded Belgian yeast complexity, with a nice rich dark/Munich malt backbone, and balancing noble hops. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressively well made style example.

After watching the below video on Remembrance Day, I had to try this beer. Expecting the worst, I was pleasantly surprised by the caramel notes and smooth finish.

Drink, drink, to Vincent Speranza and all our true heroes!

After touring the battlefields around Bastogne, I stopped into Brasserie Lamborelle for a bier or 2. Naturally, I ordered a 0.33l bottle of the house specialty - Airborne, at €4.00.

I was presented the bottle and, in lieu of a glass, a small, olive-drab ceramic helmet from which to drink. The bier itself was a clear, medium copper color, with a light tan head which slowly dissipates, leaving a bit of lace inside the helmet. Some malt and mild caramel were evident in the nose. It had a decent feel, being medium bodied and decently smooth on the tongue.

Taste had some caramel and light sweetness, with even a touch of dark fruitiness noted. A dry finish ended things for Airborne. Not bad, overall. All the Way!!
