From the 16 oz. can with no date listed. Sampled on January 1, 2019.
The appearance is a slightly foggy, more like unfiltered, looking amber yellow with a good supply of lacing on the side of the glass.
The aroma is not overly vibrant but it brings out herbal, pine, and melon sensations for the most part.
Medium or better body.
The taste has more of an herbal character than the others I noted on the nose although not knowing the date of this can, it might just be fading hops. Bitter finish.

Can from Harvest Market. Hazy electric lemon with a huge frothy white head that persists. Citrus tropical grassy earthy with bits of sweet bread. Gritty mouthfeel. Not horrible but probably not a repeat buy either.

This is a chalky thick mess with little definition of any flavor spectrum. Initial tastes of floral and mineral earthiness turned moldy and bitter. Hard to find a reason to finish the can.

When in Rome, do as the Greeks do? This might not make sense to world travelers but it makes sense to the brewers at Trout River Brewing as they see the hazy world around them and they hark back on an older way of making imperial IPA.
Burnt orange and deep copper in color, the casually hazy beer builds a creamy off white lather before thwarting a host of piney, citrusy and peppery scents. Grounded by caramel and breadiness, the taste picks up on those malty sweet tendencies with honey and granola bringing a toasty, nutty taste to the early palate.
As the Hangry Angler rolls across the middle palate, its caramel and nutty influences lessens and the balance begins to quickly favor the hops. What started floral develops into a sharp citrusy taste of pink grapefruit and orange peels. Trending resinous, bitter and spicy, a gripping taste of pine sap, grass and wood spices play on the late palate with a vegetal pang and a prickle of vodka.
Medium full on the palate, the beer's lingering sweetness and breadiness becomes slightly lumbering on the finish, extending into the next sip with echoes of citrus pith and peel and a nearly solventy peppercorn character.

You have to approach this beer differently than most DPIAs from New England. As a general consideration, a cross between Tone Arrogant Bastard Ale and Shed Mountain Ale. It is very good balance between an DPIA and a strong mountain ale. This seems odd, but expect a darker color and a less hoppy profile, but a bit more balance. I have come to this site for a decade or so, and I have only reviewed maybe one or two beers; but, I think the rating on this brew is a bit low. It is hoppy and malty and has that mountain ale generality in my opinion. Worth a try . . . but, if you want hops and more hops and more hops then, this may not be for you. It's pricey and I may wish I went another way, but I am not disappointed. Not sure, if I'll buy it again, but I try a lot and have a few favs.

Poured from a 16oz can into a Teku glass.
Look is a slightly hazy golden amber with little to no head.
Aroma is a dry biscuit malt and citra hops.
Taste is a earthy herbal with a strong sweet malt.
