An enjoyable blend of dark malts, a hint of coffee, with subtle cocoa and caramel notes. Each sip finishes with a harmonious balance of flavor. Beans provided by First Branch Coffee Co.

Pours dark brown, decent head. Big roasted malt & coffee aroma. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate. Very dark and roasty flavor. Carbonation is good. Overall a good coffee Porter.

DATE: February 2, 2018... OCCASION: celebrating the truly unbelievable comeback win for Will's 5/6 rec team... GLASSWARE: HopDevil nonick... pours an expectedly dark black body with a two-fingered head that is brown, thick, bubbly and substantial... a nice mocha aroma strikes first, followed by vanilla, anise, peat, and vegetable--the caramel is faint, if at all, and the mixture produces a slightly off-putting quality that can be detected (apparently) a few seats away (as my wife suggests)... perhaps the coffee bean presents itself as a decaffeinated bean? quite an odd fellow, this collaboration... the dry finish appreciates well, with a soft, ringing, lingering brine that doesn't quite sit well... smooth and rich going in, and more than sippable at 6.8%... the peat pounds the palate; the sweetness of the caramel flirts with the vegetable in an odd, funky way; the sweet marshmallow, metallic caramel, toasted bread malts, and subtle hops make this a quirky, fun, curious porter... a little better than the sum of its parts... thanks again for the gifting, Jeff!

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance seemed to carry more of a brown color in it's pour but had a darker complexion to it's body in the glass, almost black. A finger and a half's worth of a cap of off white foamy head sat atop and slid off at a moderate pace. Two rings of lace stuck nicely to the glass.
The aroma had a very nice meshing of dark roasted coffee, sweet coffee (somewhat espresso-like), dark chocolate nibs, cocoa powder, clean low lying caramel tones and a dried sweet earthy to grassy hop tone.
The flavor was moderately sweet with a substantial roasty grip coming in with a good measure of that earthy to dry and roasty pull coming in for a great blend. Aftertaste was mildly roasty with some sweet cocoa powder and dark chocolate.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Sweet to roasty finish.
Overall, works for me as an American porter, I do see the "brown ale" sort of qualities coming about, but even if this was considered a brown ale, I'd still find this quite enjoyable.

Collaboration with Upper Pass Beer Co. brewed at Trout River Brewing Co.
No Date on Can.
Moderate pour yields a nearly one inch very light tan head over a dark brown body with some lacing. Nose of roasted malt, slight coffee grounds, cocoa, and slight malted milk. Taste of cocoa and malted milk with slight caramel on the finish. Nice feel and a fine job from Springfield, VT.
