Have we ever encountered a red IPA? No, we haven’t. We do love red beers though, and man is this cool one for us. Growing up as hockey players and following the BU program, everyone knows the tragic story of Travis Roy. For Dot to put this into production and name it after Travis and to support his foundation is an amazing collaboration. The beer drinks malty with great hop kick and is a wonderful blend of IPA and lager. It’s kind of like if you mixed a Conehead and Boston Lager together. You get the hoppy IPA froth with the malty lager backbone. A nice combo of flavors for a great cause. Glad we got our hands on a can.

Canned 2021/10/11
Pours a creamy fluffy almost 1 finger head with great retention, soapy lacing, semi hazy amber to almost auburn color
nose sweet biscuity malt, with a little toasted grain and a touch roasty, hint of caramel, some bread crust, some fruity notes with a little candied apple, light earthy spicy hop
Taste brings more biscuity grain, toasted bread crust, cereal, some caramel and toffee notes but not too sweet, hint roasty, fair red ale like, then hops kick in with med to higher bitterness, spicy hops, a little earthy pine, good balance as well, mild dry finish, spicy hop bitterness on the higher side
Mouth is med to a bit fuller bod, med to a bit higher frothy carb
Overall pretty good, nice hop character, good base red ale, decent balance with malt centered up front then hop heavy back like it should, honorable beer
