I am really torn on this review 'cuz there were many strong features of this brew, but some real weakness. I wanted to like it but in the long run it didn't measure up.
Appearance was very good with a nice settling show when being poured and served. Coal black with just hints of red on edges. Thinnish (1/4") head, but very steady with excellent lacing thoughout the drink.
Aroma varied. Beer was served too cold (they should know better), so started with almost no aroma, but gradually moved to more complexity, including some fruitiness (berry, currant) and a flowery almost hoppy sweetness (advertised as brewed with just one hops).
Initial sip has a Guiness feel in that it's thinnish, but in takes on its own flavor qualities, esp. dryness from the dark malt, coffee flavors, dark roast, but not necc. approaching fruitiness. However, as it warmed it began to take on flavor charateristics that were distrubing. I had a bit of a cold and there were hard to identify, but they seemed problematic and inappropriate for style.
Feel was a little thin, but some softness.
Parts of this beer were very good, but as warmed became much less appealing. May give a trial later and update.
