Appearance: Dark brown, clear with slight garnet cast. Kaki head with good retention. Lightly carbonated.
Aroma: Herbal hops, Toasted bread, roasted malt and mild chocolate notes
Taste: Medium sweet, light to moderate bitterness, herbal, roasty and very mild chocolate flavor.
Mouth feel: Semi-dry, low carbonation, light bodied. Medium length aftertaste with very mild bitterness
Overall: An enjoyable winter time sip. Comparing it to a stalwart like Hofbrau Dunkel; it is less sweet, a tad more bitter, and malt profile is more roasty and chocolatey than Hofbrau. Looks full bodied, but is quite light on the palate. I would compare it to the "Porter" style version of a Lager. It is probably closer to a Schwarzbier - especially compared to sweeter Dunkel; but still well within BJCP specks for Dunkel. Well crafted lager. Arches Brewing is an outstanding Lager brewery in Atlanta. Along with Creature Comforts, it is considered a craft beer leader in Georgia.
