A:
Pours pitch brown (if there is such a thing) with a hint of ruby at the edges, sports two and a half solid fingers of healthy tan head. Good retention; even lacing. (4)

S:
Fruity roasty dark fruity malt melange. Leather, dried dark fruits, light molasses, verges on coffee but never quite gets there. (4)

T:
Follows the nose. Fruity roasty berries and black bread with the rest. (4)

M:
Smooth, thinnish body, medium-minus carbonation, slightest hint of warmth, lingering sweet malty hum, drinkable. (3.75)

O:
Wow. A solid, tasty example of a Doppelbock is not what I was expecting.
A big, beautiful beer in the glass, the aroma and flavor walk hand-in-hand showcasing a variety of malt tones stopping just shy of roasty. It is a joy to drink, hides its alcohol a little too well and has that hearty melanoidin feel that almost always seems to me to be lacking in non-German German beers. It is a little sweet for my tastes but it is very good and I will definitely be getting this one again and trying their others. (4)

Bottle: Poured a clear deep brown/burgundy color bock with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with subtle sugar notes and subtle toffee notes. Taste is a great mix of caramelized malt with subtle toffee and dry fruits notes with light touch of residual sugar notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Nice malt base doppelbock but falls slightly short on the yeast ester.
