A farmhouse beer style originating in the Black Forest region of Bavaria, Dampfbier was produced by farmers using malted barley, which was inexpensive compared to wheat, alongside weizen yeast, which was readily available. It is traditionally fermented at high temperatures to give it fruity aromas.

A:
Pours clearish glowing orange-brown without much head. No lacing. (3.5)
S:
Toast with sliced bananas and pepper. (3.75)
T:
Brown bread, bananas, light spice. (3.75)
M:
Relatively dry with moderate carbonation and a lightly astringent tartness. (4)
O:
Interesting to have a beer like this. This is a style I've never heard of before but it is "close" enough to a well-known style that it is easy to draw parallels and see how this one differs from its cousin. It is crisper and a little drier than a hefe. The malt brings a nice crusty bite to it, but I think the wheat tang in a hefe is complimentary to the yeast in a way that this lacks a little. Amber-like, brown-like, light tang along with the banana esters from the yeast. A good beer overall. Nice and refreshing. Lacks a little oomph and a better look but at the end of the day it is a nice all around beer. (3.75)
