great name, solid beer, tons and tons of coffee in this, pretty dry, roast heavy, approaching that roast double jeopardy with the java and the dark barley together, and this packs some back end bitterness, but i like the boldness overall, cool winter beer. just about black in the glass but not too full bodied looking for what it is, average tan head on it, frothy and lasting from the tap. the nose is cool, coffee first, lots of it, strong black drip, light smoke there too, but very little middle malt richness, its not packed with caramel and bready notes as a lot of these are, but its not unbalanced. the ferment is tidy, not totally neutral, but close, and it might have a slight hop thing too, dry enough that the cozy factor of the coffee isnt really there, its a colder rather than a warmer complexion to me. the flavor has some bitterness and acidity from the coffee, could be a beans or grounds infusion rather than a brew and a blend, but either way its a big dose with lots of exposure. lighter bodied porter underneath with just a little malt depth, baking chocolate and some mineral character. very little sweetness anywhere in this, which i like, but its dry and bitter at the end and could use a little bit of roundness and extension i think, being cold out i want the warmth from the coffee and this really doesnt provide that, but the coffee is fresh, the flavor is nice, and the overall quality is there. just my third beer from these guys, all of them very well done!
