This hop harvest, we’ve managed to get our hands on freshly picked Eclipse™ hops from HPA’s Rostrevor hop gardens. To showcase its deliciously juicy flavour and aroma, we’ve steeped wet cones in a dry West Coast-Style malt base and then added freshly dried whole-cone hops to the fermenter.

Purchased at the Bells Beach Brewery Bar in Geelong in September 2024 and drunk in October.
L: In the glass, the beer is a crystal clear, light straw yellow, with a frothy, centimetre-high head. The many bubbles that rocket up the glass are tiny and very satisfying to watch.
S: The beer is strongly redolent of all the varieties of melon, be it the honey, rock or water style of fruit, as well as a touch of strawberry. This is an unusual hop note that I can't recall coming across previously.
T: The taste very much mirrors the nose, and even the reasonably strong bitterness has a melony touch. That bitterness lingers just this side of harsh, and I suspect, but am almost certainly wrong, that the hops wanted a more caramelly base to soften that harshness. Still, I am intrigued by the beer and am not offended by that note.
M: The beer is very soft in the mouth, with minimal carbonation and insignificant bite on the swallow. Paradoxically, what carbonation there is seems to linger on my tongue long after the swallow, similar to what sherbet will do.
O: I like this beer. As noted, the hop body brought a new flavour combination to me, and I would happily go back for a second can of this to experience it again. It is, however, a one-off beer, so I've probably missed that boat.
Cheers!
