16oz pint at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square - I've missed out on this one a few times already, so third time's the charm! I wonder if they're still brewing out of Dead Frog?
This beer appears a clear, medium copper amber colour, with one thick finger of puffy, rocky, and chunky off-white head, which leaves some streaky defrosting windshield lace around the glass as it slowly recedes.
It smells of grainy and crackery caramel malt, some bruised apple/pear pome fruitiness, a very subtle peppercorn spice, and some plain leafy, weedy, and grassy green hop bitters. The taste is bready and grainy caramel malt, applesauce, pear compote, a twinge of musty yeastiness, some estery ground black pepper, and more leafy, earthy, and dead grassy verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is so-so in its milquetoast frothiness, the body an adequate middleweight, and somewhat smooth, the hops actually a minor cause for concern as this juncture. It finishes semi-sweet, as the caramel malt seems quite capable of holding down the fort.
Overall, this is an acceptable enough version of the style, though something just feels a tad off - lots of flavour, yet kind of simple-seeming. Still, promising, compared to this outfit's previous efforts, so that's a good sign, right?

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
