a solid american take on the style, still a little sweet like it should be, with some seriously flavorful malt layers ranging from raisin to molasses to dried cherry and even port wine. the belgian yeast tastes similar to the one they used in their other belgian styles. but the spice notes it contributes seem to get legs from the richer darker malts and its more flavorful here than it is in the tripel it seems. lots of body, moderate residual sugar, wonderfully effervescent carbonation. there is nice complexity here, even a light smoke and banana element in the finish, pretty unique as they go, but also squarely within the expectations for the style. its got a perfect alcohol content too, just a little warming while not being so high i cant enjoy a few glasses of it. i liked all of the belgian styles here pretty well, but the dubbel i think is their best so far. they are still real new too, this is an ambitious and well done beer for a brewery who is only a few months old. they should do well moving forward if they keep it up.
