I visited this brewery a couple of weeks ago. I am usually not a black ale fan; much prefer an imperial stout. But this was an exception. Almost black - with a thin head at pour. Great mouth feel - weighty and smooth. Mild carbonation suited the taste. The blend of chocolate and coffee flavors were balanced - given the alcohol content, it's not boozy, but well balanced. Slight bitterness on the back end - sort of a cross between a black IPA and a great coffee stout. Amazingly drinkable beer - perfect for a summer afternoon!

quite possibly my favorite beer i had here at inbound, and although i generally liked their belgian styles the best, this one is very good, intensely flavored, not so great in hot weather, but really sturdy and well done, hoppy, dry, and bitter. shiny black in the glass with average viscosity, supporting a full inch of creamy looking light brown head, a pretty glass of beer. the nose is grassy and piney hops, heavily dosed, but also an unbalanced bitter dark malt base that doesnt have the sweet middle to check it, fully roasty and bringing elements of coffee and burnt cigar to the flavor, especially the back end. its a bit lighter in body than it seems like it should be, but i do get some of the alcohol coming through. it works though, helps cut the dankness of the hops. this is a big beer, really intensely flavored, but really satisfying in the stomach too. it lingers long in the finish, the flavor of the dark grain is great, and its pretty dry when its all said and done. maybe not quite a black ipa, but moving in that direction for sure. very enjoyable glass of beer.
