Canned 11/17/17
Appearance - Pours clear and orange amber with a finger's width, sandstone colored head. Fair retention, resulting in a thin, broken layer and a ring of suds around the edge of the glass. Lacing is fair, with broken lines and small spotting.
Smell - Hops are prominent, with resinous, floral and slightly citrusy character.
Taste - Starts off with floral character and mild orange sweetness, with a hint of spice and bitterness. Strong caramel malt undertone develops mid-taste and sticks around. Finish is big and bitter, with earthy dankness and a lot of grapefruit skin and pith. Aftertaste lingers with that same bitterness and slight caramel sweetness.
Mouthfeel - Full in body with light, tingly carbonation. Slightly syrupy texture that sits heavy and dry on the finish.
Overall - A throwback to the kind of hop bomb that was all too common 5-10 years ago, and a pretty good one at that. It's right up my alley with that citrus/caramel combo.

Definitely an 'old school' West Coast DIPA. Starts one dimensional, lots of bitterness. As it warms it displays some subtle citrus and caramel malt, but for the most part this is palate punching resin/piney bitterness. Not sure what hops were used for the DDH recipe, my guess would be Centennial and Cascade.
