Uit De Grond, roughly translated from Dutch means "From the Soil". The inspiration for this series comes from the herbs we grow in our garden here at the brewery.
Brewed with locally grown barley and wheat, open fermented with our wild caught house cultures. Left to mature in oak barrels for eight months. Then refermented on Blood Oranges and whole Chamomile flowers. 100% bottle conditioned.

it looks like there have been a couple different versions of this one, like its a series emerging, we had the blood orange and chamomile one last night, and really enjoyed it. i had not been too impressed with others from these guys in the past, but the fermentation profile here is much better, cleaned up, refined, more mature, unique still too which is cool, bretty and a bit tart but not overly acidic or anything. the blood orange is strong and sweetens this up quite a lot, but its acid along with the bacterial element is a nice pair. the chamomile is also quite robust, giving this a springtime floral brightness, almost medicinal to me, menthol or something, but its delicious and i think it works well with the orange. i like the bitterness it seems to add as well, a tea-like herbaceous drying thing too. the beer has some real sweetness to it, which suggests longer bottle ageing might benefit it some. my neighbor said this would be perfectly refreshing on a hot summer day, and i half agree. i think the flavors are refreshing and summery and pleasant, would be awesome in a popsicle or something, but the texture isnt there for me, its sweet and kind of heavy, not carbonated enough to enter the refreshing realm, and there is a lot of grainy body to this, kind of raw and cerealy and not delicate at all. cool effort though, neat combination of flavors and an interesting ferment. curious to try more of their stuff again now, and definitely interested in the watermelon and basil edition they did of this one!

Watermelon and basil? Yes! Smooth and flavorful with subtle tartness. Would make a great summer thirst quencher but works well on a Florida fall day too!
