Bought in early 2016, best before 1.11.16.
The colour is dark brown, almost black. The two finger head is airy and brown; it sinks slowly with a fizzing sound leaving no lacing on the glass.
The smell is smooth with roasted malts, some tart notes and a touch of smoke. Some spicy flavours of nutmeg, cloves and bay leaves.
The creamy taste is semi-sweet and roasted with some burned notes. Growing smooth bitterness and spicy notes like allspice, cardamom and a touch of cinnamon. Medium body. The aftertaste is balanced with sweet roasted malt and mixed spices. The finish reminds of a rum and coke drink, but with a bitter twist.
The carbonation is strong, the small bubbles short-lived. The liquid is smooth.
A pleasant after dinner-stout with just the right amount of spices.
