22 oz waxed bottle served in a Deschutes snifter. Thanks to pmoney for the share.

A: Pours a semi-hazy brownish color. Dark amber around the edges. Light white head forms on the pour and recedes to a thin ring. Some soapy lace is left down the glass.

S: Oaky with some light vinous notes. Red grape, pale malt and little toast.

T: Light toffee, oak and some pale malts. The red wine is a little more apparent with some tart grape and semi-sweet berry.

M: Dry and light bodied. Medium high carb. Slightly sour finish.

O: Decent. A little to oak forward, but the base didn't get lost. Red wine was a nice touch.

22oz, winter 2011/2012
Victory tulip

A: Pours out a deep reddish brown color. It's slightly hazy. Carbonation is rather faint. An edge of off white head formed. No lacing.

S: Smells of tannin like notes. Maybe some cherries.

T: A very slight tart cherry start to this one. No where near where I thought it would be. The flavors are fairly tannin like. But assumed there was more sour in this one. Finish is just ew.

M: A light medium.

O: C+ or B-

A muddy brown color, maybe a dark amber, with an off-white head. The cherries come through nicely on the nose. There is some bread and toffee sweetness and a faint oakiness. A definite vinegar note to it as well. The flavor has pronounced vinegar and cherry notes with a fair amount of wine and red grape. A hint of oak, maybe some vanilla, and a bit of toasted malt and toffee.

Bottle purchased by Jason at the brewery during a stopover on our trip. Served in a tulip.

A - Quick-dissolving tan foam settles to a thin ring of bubbles, leaving no wisps on top nor any lacework. Amber body with a very stray bubbles visible.

S - A bit sulfurous, with funky and lightly medicinal brett, touch of red wine vinegar, sour cherry hints, and fairly low oak presence. The sweetness of the base beer is still fairly present, so this is more Sour Brown than Wild Ale.

T - Taste is a bit less enjoyable, with the brown ale sweetness dominating mid-palate before yielding to musty and medicinal brett notes in the finish. Not bad, just less complex and loses some of the flavor notes I enjoyed most in the aroma.

M - Smooth medium body, moderate carbonation, and a fairly dry and tannic finish. Not much in they way of alcohol presence.

D - A solid first attempt at making a wild beer, but fairly mild and subtle - could use more cherry presence and sourness for my tastes. Still, far and away the superior of the 15th Anniversary offerings.
