Copenhagen 26/2 2021. 33 cl bottle from Meny, Borups Allé, Frb. F. In Musa's series of rock classic inspired beer they now take on Black Sabbath. Musa's usual design in black and purple (Ozzy would approve).

Pours opaque, dark brown with a small off-white head. Settles as thin, patchy, almost transparent layer of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. Thin rim of foam running along the side of the glass.

Aroma is medium intense with a sweet odor mingling with some earthy sents. Brown sugar, caramel. Bitter coffee, wet soil, leather.

Medium strong carbonation. Slightly thick, soft, creamy, lightly tingling texture.

Flavor is fairly intense with a medium strong sweetness followed and balanced by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter and lingers for a while. Finish is dry.

Pretty light for a Baltic Porter. Certainly a decent dry Porter but I would not traverse the Baltic Sea bunkering on this one.

500ml keg from Musa da Bica, Lisbon (€5.80):
Dark, almost murky brown bordering on black with a foamy patch of lacing in the middle of the surface. Chocolate malts & strong smokey notes initially, there's coffee, oak & roasted malts on the nose with some tobacco in there too & a strong earthy aroma that has some caramel & rich, slightly sweeter notes at the end. Rich chocolate malts & caramel carry over to the taste with some earthy malts & roasted flavours, a few darker dried fruits sneaking in too. Thick & full bodied with a rich, smooth feel & soft carbonation other than a subtle tang at the end as it gets sweeter. Some of the alcohol does show but it's not overpowering; a balanced but strong beer that goes down well.

Poured into a BrewDog snifter.

A: Body wise, it has a deep dark brown colour with a beige head showing proper retention.
S: The aroma is coffee-based with some hint of chocolate in the back.
T&M: Taste is not your face but that's the deal with this style, more mild flavours creating high drinkability. Here, you can find medium sweetness from malts, bitterness connecting both from chocolate and coffee and a light crisp carbonation showing what this beer can be. Alcohol is unnoticed. Bitterness is medium high.
O: This is what I like about Baltic Porters (and Porters in general), low extraction dark beers with soul.
