Taster at brewery. Medium amber pour, small skin of head. Big malts in the aroma and taste, toasty, mild sweetness. Body is velvety smooth and creamy.

this is a stylistically correct marzen, and its a nice fall beer. this style to me is sometimes one that when the beer is good, they are all kind of samey, perhaps less room for innovation and flavor variance than in other styles, which i also sort of think about pilsener most of the time. that is to say that this is somewhat generic, which in this instance, is not a bad thing, the way it kind of has become for me in say an ipa or a saison, where i want unique flavors within the style. this is classic, professionally done, and very drinkable, and the fact that it tastes like a number of other good oktoberfest type beers is a compliment, not a critique. there is a little bit of an almost honey sort of sweetness to this, as well as a nice toasted layer, but its quite light as they go, dries up nicely on the finish, and has a nice german bready and doughy lager yeast character that the style really depends on. this is one of the better post falls beers i have had so far, fits the style and the season well, and is plenty drinkable as they go. high carbonation, crisp finish, and a clean lager fermentation. nothing radical here, but they did a good job with it.
